mIRC Setup (for Microsoft Windows) 1. Download: Here you will find the most recent mIRC version. 2. Install the software. 3. Start mIRC Configuration  The window "Options" should open up automatically after the first start up of mIRC. Should this not be the case, you can reach the settings via "Tools", "Options".  This window will now appear and you will be asked to enter different settings. Enter your name where it says: "Full Name". This does not have to be your actual name. You may enter an alias (for instance your SHOE nickname). Where it says "Email Address" you should enter your Email address. Don't worry: Your email address is not visible to other users and you will not receive any unwanted mails/spam. In the field named "Nickname" you are requested to enter your nick. This is the name, which you registered on this website under "Nick Registration" and with which you are visible in the chat room. "Alternative" is being used if the nick you have chosen is already in use by someone else.  Now click on "Servers" in the "Category" to choose the IRC net on which you would like to chat. You will need to click on "Add" to add a new server to the list.  A new window will open up. Enter the server description, the address and port. If you are behind a firewall, it may be, that port 6667 is not accessable.If this is the case, you will get an error message when trying to connect. If this happens to you, then enter this port number: 443 - That should do the trick to cheat the firewall ;-) Where it says "Password" you may enter your password, which you chosen at the Nick registration. Please only save your password here if you are the only one who has access to your computer. If another person abuses the chat facility in your name, you will be held responsible. Always treat your passwords with the utmost caution. In case of doubt, leave this field "password" empty. If everything is done properly, click on "Add" and then on "ok". Once you have done this, you need to click on the flash icon (top left hand corner) to get connected with the server.   In this very annoying window you can enter a channel or choose one out of the list. Since this list shows mostly channels which are not available on the server, it's best if you deactivate "Pop up folder on connect" and hit the "OK" button to close the window. You are now connected with IRC. Now enter /join #english in the textfield below, in order to get to the #english channel/room. Should you wish to change channels, enter the command /list. You will now get a list of all channels on the server. The number on the right hand side of the channel name shows, how many users are actively chatting. Further on the right hand side you can see the actual topic of the channel. By double clicking the channel name, you will be able to enter that particular channel.
