If you have successfully completed Step 1 and Step 2, you can now log on to the chat. Choose "Java". After login, a security applet will pop up. You will need to confirm it, by clicking "OK". Your SHOE nick & password is NOT automatically your CHAT nick & password. You need to register your chat nick on this site first, before you can log on.

If you chat on the Java chat, a security applet will pop up, after you have entered your chat username and password. You have to confirm this applet with ok or yes - else the chat won't load!

If you get this error message: Unable to connect: Null then you have either clicked on "No" or the applet won't load itself.

If you have clicked on No by mistake, then close ALL your browser window and log in again. If it didn't load itself, please click here for further information: Applet Help

What is mIRC / Ircle?
mIRC (for Microsoft Windows) and Ircle (for Apple Macintosh) are external chat programs that allow you to access the SHOE chat without login on through the SHOE website. The advantage is, that if the SHOE website is down for maintenance, you will still be able to chat through these external chat programs. Some of these programs may cost.

IRC works by typing certain commands where you normally type your text. You will find all commands in our very extensive help file where you can search by keyword. Here are the most important ones:

Join other channels than the one you are in right now
Type: /join #channel

View other chatters profile
Type: /msg nickserv info nickname

List all channels
Type: /list

Send a private message to another member
Type: /query nickname

Rejoin the chatroom if you have been disconnected and your chatnick is still in use
Type: /msg nickserv GHOST nickname [password]

Viewing profiles on the Java Chat
Simply right click on the name in the userlist and then click on "SHOE Nickpage".

Viewing profiles on the HTML Chat
Click on the requested name in the userlist, choose "Nickpage" and then click on the ">>" button.

The user ID to the nickpage will be shown to you in the chat status window. It looks like this: http://1004.shoe.org Just click on it.

IRC chats are so great, because you can have your very own chatroom with your very own topics. As a chatroom owner you will be automatically the operator. There are two ways to go about it:

Temporary chatroom
By typing: /join #yourroomname a new channel is being created automatically. You will also be the operator - meaning in charge - of that room. Once you leave the chat, the room will close.

Permanent chatroom
We offer you the possibility to register your very own chatroom. The advantage of the permanent room is, that no-one else can have a room named the same as you. As a chatroom owner you will be automatically the operator and have certain powers. Having registered your own room, you can save all the settings like the topic, description. You can also assign the operator status to another member. Please view very extensive help files for more info on this.

Please make sure, your description includes: 18+ only

If the room has not been used for more than 150 days, it will be deleted.

Operators are easily identified. They all have an @ in front of their nickname. These are the "rulers" of a particular channel. This means they can kick you out of their channel for any reason. If you don't like this, you complain to them or start your own channel and become a channel operator there yourself.

There are only 3 operators in the official SHOE rooms. That's the SHOE-team i.e. Sunci & Fab aswell as our virtual doorwoman NEKA.
Although owners of their chatrooms have limited power (for instance to kick you), the overall say and power has only the SHOE-Team.

We do everything we can, to provide you with a safe and cosy chatroom. If you notice anyone not abiding by the rules or netiquette, please report them immediately to us. You can do this by sending NEKA a private message.

Type: /msg neka REPORT <nickname> <reason>

where <nickname> is the nickname of the abusing person and <reason> the reason, why you are reporting this user.
